Just a little something..

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything to my blog, and it has been a very complicated year for me. Both ups and downs and even a little “timey-whimey”!

However, trying to get things back on track, And in that mode, here is a little something I wrote tonight during commercials while I found myself channel surfing. Please feel free to comment on it.

“Once More Unto The Breach”! (or why I like Science Fiction and Tech Stuff)

star-trek-vi-soundtrack

Yeah. Kind of like one of my favorite lines from “Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country” Another would be the little speech that Spock makes where he states that an ancestor of his once said “that if you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable¬† must be the truth”!

Man, I could go on and on about my favorite lines from science fiction and tech movies, but that would take all night!..lol

Okay, So for one of the last post of 2013, I thought I would just sit down and go like “all random” but, try to keep a certain level of cohesion in what the writing is about.

Yes, I like to think of myself as a science fiction enthusiast. And am proud to be considered, by some, quite the “nerd“. Now, as we all know, being a nerd or a geek, is not really the way to be popular in social circles and certainly not the best way to be popular with the ladies. However, one must be brave enough to embrace their inner nerd or geek, and be happy with that part of themselves. For me, my being a nerd is something that has been with me for quite a long time. And it actually has a starting point!

During a summer on my childhood, when most kids were running around, enjoying the sun, eating ice cream, playing with friends, I was bed-ridden. Now, at the outset, this looked to be a very grim type of summer. However, during that time, it was to my pleasure that I was gifted with not just one book to help pass the time, but the entire collection of the World Book Encyclopedia! Complete with World Almanac. My brain went on overload!!

That summer I literally inhaled every volume of that set of encyclopedia. Each volume read did nothing but expand my realm of understanding and a led to a thirst to read more. From the encyclopedia I moved on to works such as “Hunchback of Notre Dame“, “Wuthering Heights”, the plays and writings of Shakespeare, H.G. Wells and so many more works of English literature and history writings. Probably why I love the Indiana Jones franchise so much..lol.

I would have to say that it was the readings of H.G. Wells and watching “The Time Machine” with Rod Taylor that sparked my interest in Science Fiction. From there it was running home, after school, to watch shows like: Ultraman, Star Trek, Lost in Space, and the list goes on and on….

For me, science fiction and technology has been a welcome companion along all the walks of life that I have taken. From building my first computer (a very speedy IBM 286!!), to installing my first corporate network (CISCO network built from the ground up). I am probably one of the few people that purchased, used, and enjoyed IBM’s short foray into the world of software with the OS/2 Warp Software Operating System (and really wish that it was still in operation today!) As we move into the New Year of 2014, there is so much that I look forward to in the areas of science, science fiction, and¬†technology.

So why do I love science fiction and technology? Because technology has bridged the gap between so many people and cultures. Has made it possible to engage in conversations with individuals half a world away – from the comfort of your living room! Put the power of a computer in the palm of our hands, or even in the pocket of our jeans!

And science fiction? Also brings people together. People from all walks of life, all social and economic backgrounds can have discussion on theories of space travel, dimensional time-streams, cold fusion, and the like. Science Fiction and technology can level the playing field, so to speak, and allow us to all find common ground in which to talk to one another. And, if you think about it, wouldn’t that be just wonderful??

Have a great night my friends, and may the last days left in this year be so awesome for you that it continues its awesomeness through out the new year that is coming in.
